The IATI Publishers Community of Practice has been co-created with members of the wider IATI Community. This page provides a first overview of the initial thematic scope and possible activities of this COP. Its goals and activities reflect the current needs and preferences of the COP and will be updated and revised at least annually. Membership of IATI COPs is open to anyone with an interest in the subject matter.

GOALS
Based on input received during Community consultations the following are the initial goals for the Data Publishers COP (non-exhaustive list):
- Help shape IATI’s products and tools and ensure they are fit-for-purpose for the publisher community by providing inputs to consultations on IATI Connect hosted by the IATI Secretariat.
- Provide peer-to-peer support / capacity-building amongst publishers to increase the quality and coverage of data published to IATI.
- Better understand data quality challenges from the end user perspective (i.e. “how do quality challenges with the data I publish affect the ability of others to meaningfully use the data?”).
- Launch a peer/buddy network to welcome new IATI publishers and also to ensure quick responses to common publishing questions.
- Increase publishers’ capacity to publish quality IATI data by feeding into consultations to improve publishing guidance.
- Examine comparability and explore possibilities to collaborate with other data initiatives.
COMMUNITY NORMS AND PRINCIPLES
The following are primary guiding principles and community norms considered especially important for the Data Publishing COP:
- Inclusiveness and taking positive action to ensure space for a diversity of expertise and experience, including both “tech savvy” and policy colleagues, old hands and new publishers, etc. Ensure a balance of power dynamics within the group to ensure equality of access and respect for others through the technical infrastructure of the group, language used, etc.
- Collaboration and cross-fertilisation amongst COPs, ensuring that discussions and activities are not solely confined to the Data Publishing COP, but, where relevant, bring in expertise from members of the wider IATI community.
- Transparency to ensure that all shared information is open and freely accessible to all.
- Membership of the Data Publishing COP is open to anyone with an interest in the subject matter.
WHY JOIN THIS COMMUNITY?
- ‘Demystify and get better at publishing’: improving the quality of IATI data overall, including its utility for data users.
- ‘Do my job better’: help IATI publishers and technical colleagues to increase the quality of their publishing and lessen administrative burden.
- Shape and provide input into official IATI products and tools, ensuring they are fit for purpose for the publishing community.
- Network with peers for professional development.
