Guarding your privacy on this platform is essential to us. We want to keep this platform freely accessible to anyone, anywhere, at any time. This brief privacy statement outlines our policy concerning the gathering and sharing of information through the IATI Connect platform. By visiting and using this platform you are accepting the practices described in this policy.
What kind of information do we collect?
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on the site.
By setting a cookie, IATI Connect will remember you the next time you visit the site and therefore will not have to ask questions that you have already answered (like address information).
You are always free to decline our cookies if your browser permits, although in that case you may not be able to use certain features on the site and may be required to re-enter information more frequently to use certain services on the site.
Using IATI Connect anonymously
Depending on your personal preference, you may browse the IATI Connect platform without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. We gather general browsing data from standard server logs. These include your IP (Internet Protocol) address, domain name, browser type, operating system, and information such as the web site that referred you to us, the files you downloaded, the pages you visit, and the dates/times of those visits.
Collection of personally identifiable information
If you register for the IATI-newsletter, log on to parts of IATI Connect-Groups, request information, provide feedback, join a discussion group or join an electronic mailing list, you will be asked to provide personal information such as your name, postal address and e-mail address. This information is collected only with your knowledge and permission, and is kept in various IATI databases.
Joining electronic discussion groups may mean that other participants of the discussion group (including non-IATI employees) will see personal information that you have volunteered. For open discussion groups, this information will be public. When setting up your personal profile you can decide which personal information you would want to disclose to other members.
Migration of Discuss-users and content
To retain the user-experience of the previous Discuss-users we migrated both all discussion-threads (content) and user-profile to IATI Connect. These users will receive a notification of their transferred profile as part of this migration. This pre-arranged profile-transfer does not disclose any (new) personal information that was not previously approved by the user on Discuss.
What do we do with the information we collect?
Anonymous web usage
The information gathered during general browsing of the IATI Connect site is used to analyse trends and usage of the site and to improve the usefulness of the site. It is not connected with any personal information, and we will not disclose this information with third external parties. If you have registered with IATI Connect in connection with any activity on the IATI Connect site, the information we collect about your normal web usage will be identifiable to you.
Personally identifiable information
IATI may use the personal information you provide to:
- Contact you – either in response to a query or suggestion, or to mail newsletters, documents, publications, etc. to you;
- Confirm your registrations on the site;
- Retain your online profile and preferences for future visits to the site;
- Help you quickly find information that is relevant to you based on your interests, and help us create site contents most relevant to you;
- Undertake statistical analysis.
What if I don’t want to provide personal information?
Providing personal information on the IATI Connect web site is optional. If you choose not to provide personal information, you can still browse and use the site, but you will not be able to carry out all actions. For more questions on this, please reach us via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Opting out and changing your information
At any time, you can modify your information by logging into your account on the IATI Connect web site and editing your profile.
We do not sell or share any personally identifiable information volunteered on the IATI Connect platform to any third party without prior consent. IATI employs a range of techniques and security measures based on best practices to protect the information maintained on our system from loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, IATI assumes no responsibility for the security of information.
