IATI analysis in Power-Bi

matmaxgeds • 21 May 2021

Hi, in an effort to democratise doing IATI analysis, I have been testing using Microsoft PowerBI on the basis that some of us might have that provided by our employers as part of MS Office - using the data from http://iati-tables.codeforiati.org, you can download the sqllite dataset and import it - no programming needed to have all IATI data at your fingertips! Just patience while it downloads/imports (and a good chunk of ram) needed. If there are others who are interested then let me know and I will see if I can do a writeup. See attachment for my proof of concept chart.

This is great. I'm eager to see and learn more about analysing the IATI Dataset using MS Power BI

Hi Matt, I'm also interested to learn more. Power BI is not something I've used before. Would you be able to do a run through for us? Could include it as part of an DUWG session? [~469]

    Hi Matt
Great work Matt, and thanks to Open Data services for iati-tables work. I've previously used powerbi directly with our IATI XML, that is also an option. PowerBI is very powerful indeed.
Curious to see how you ingested the tables into PowerBi. Support Amy's idea to share this with DUWG

Thanks all - I will try to work up something very practical (As I am no PowerBI expert) to share at the DUTF after next - the same approach should also work for Excel pivot tables which would be even more accessible for some.

Hi Matt - I've used Power BI in a professional setting and would love to help with this effort. I'm wrapping up assessments for a degree until June 7th, but would definitely assist after that, if it's helpful.
