COVIDaction is announcing the launch of the Vaccine Data Co-Lab, a FCDO-led effort to close data gaps and advance equitable and speedy COVID-19 vaccine distribution in LMICs. This announcement is made in collaboration with the COVAX GIS working group.

WHO Director General General Dr. Tedros Adhanom has called upon the world to urgently invest in distributing COVID-19 vaccines globally, warning that variants are evolving, and any blockages in the vaccine supply increases the likelihood that more people will die, and those countries currently enjoying vaccination rollouts will no longer be safe.

Open Call for Proposals

To support closing these data gaps in vaccine rollouts, as a first activity, the Vaccine Data Co-Lab is launching an Open Call for technical proposals. The Open Call is for organisations working directly with local and national governments in LMICs to ensure sustained capacity for vaccine deployment. Criteria have been developed in accordance with the WHO guidance on developing a national deployment and vaccination plan.

Additional partner organisations interested in supporting organisations working directly with governments with funding, technical assistance, or expert evaluation should contact covidaction-data@hellobrink.co

Organisations submitting applications will be assessed on immediate and long-term contributions to delivering vaccines and building capacity for long-term equitable data-driven decision making with host country governments. Organisations can expect added support from FCDO and other partners in strengthening the vaccine response to COVID-19. All verified applications will be made available for partnership and investment and successful applicants should expect catalytic financial support for transformative work, strengthened partnerships with leading local and global organisations, and potential for technical assistance.

About the COVAX GIS Working Group

WHO and UNICEF jointly with donor partners (BMGF, GAVI, Global Fund and World Bank) recently established the COVAX GIS working group. The group operates under the guidance of the COVAX Innovation Group on microplanning. The group reflects a bottoms-up approach that focuses on country needs in order to streamline and coordinate geospatial service and data offerings to countries. Thereby reducing transaction costs of leveraging such technologies, enabling equitable vaccine distribution, and providing for the sustained use outside of the pandemic response.
