Hello, I am starting to work through the process of creating our organization profile in the portal, but I have a question. What is the difference between a refence and an IATI identifier. I understand the steps of figuring out our organization's identifier, but one of our funders has listed us among the projects they fund and there is a reference under our name. am wondering if this is now our reference number that we carry forward or still go ahead and create our own identifier. Thanks

Hi Susan,

Great to see you engaging with the community here.
To answer your question, to publish on IATI you will need a user account, a publisher account, an IATI publisher ID and also an organisation ID.
The reference assigned to your organisation by the donor is not necessarily related to IATI - this is more likely to be their own internal reference since you have not yet registered your organisation on the IATI website.
So you will still need to create your own identifiers on IATI.
I hope that helps? Do let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks,
Audrey
